Everyone has a different experience with regards to their credit score.  One thing is for certain though: There are some myths that you need to be aware of, including:
1.Winning the lottery or having a high paying job will improve your credit score.  Unfortunately neither of these things will effect your credit score unless you use the money to pay off your debts and thus improve your credit score.
2.Junk mail will harm your credit score.  This simply is not true.  Credit card companies get your name and address through the major credit card companies.
3.Shopping around for the best loan that is available to you will harm your credit score.  While lenders do access your credit report, it is also true that this will not harm your credit score at all.  This is because as long as all of these inquiries are made within 14 days of one another they will simply count as only one inquiry instead of several different inquiries.
4.Checking your credit score will harm it so you should never do this.  No harm is going to be done by you taking the time to check your credit score online as long as you use one of the big credit bureaus or their reputable resellers.  If you go through any other web site to check your credit you may cause harm to your credit score.  This is why you need to be careful whenever you do decide to check your credit score online.
5.Credit scores are based upon your personal identity. This is simply NOT true.  These scores don’t care about who you are, just the fact that you can pay your bills.

Knowing of these myths about your credit score will be beneficial to you.  Of course, if you still have some questions, you should call the credit bureau and ask them.
