How schools get accredited is a process. One that can be short and simple or drawn out and complicated. The process of how a school becomes accredited starts with a school completing and submitting an application to the accrediting agency. If accepted, an Accreditation Committee will visit the school, explain the process guidelines, and recommend any changes. For a private school, this may mean they have to offer more Senior High School elective courses or hire a school nurse. A charter school may need to expand their curriculum in order to become accredited. When schools get accredited, it validates that they are a legitimate, formal institution which meets standard and specific educational requirements.
