When I think of famous male opera singers three come to mind: Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavorotti, and Jose Carerras. They are three of the most famous tenors of the later half of the twentieth century.

Placido Domingo, was born Jose Placido Domingo Embil on January 21, 1941 in Madrid, Spain. During his early years his family moved to Mexico. He currently serves as the General Director for the Washington National Opera in Washington, DC and the Los Angeles Opera in California. He has sung over 100 roles during his career.

Luciano Pavorotti was born on October 12, 1935 in Modena, Italy. He died of pancreatic cancer in 2007. He is one of the most commercially successful tenors of all time.

Jose Carreras was born Josep Maria Carreras on December 5, 1946 in Barcelona, Spain and made his operatic debut at age 11. Some of his best performances have been in operas by Verdi and Puccini. He has performed over 60 roles during his career.
