Great children’s photographers will make the whole incident fun for the children and as relaxing as possible for mom and dad. Pulling a child to the photo studio and making him sit static while some unknown person clicks a camera in his face is not going to give the results you are looking for. Camera men, who are practiced working with kids, know that they hold a sixth sense on how to read elders. They can tell immediately if the adult honestly likes children or is just bearing them. If they observe the second, you may have just found the point why your normally obedient child acts like a monster at the photographers.

If you want to be a successful children’s photographers you have to let the children play. You have to make an effort to speak to them on their level without being patronizing. You also need to understand children. It is astonishing how many professional photographers will expect a child to sit still for what looks like hours while they assume this pose or that. This is just plain silly. When you do with kids you need to work fast. In fact you only have a couple of minutes, at times even below that, to get the photograph right. This doesn’t permit for amateur faults. Kids get uninterested really fast and their behavior will start to worsen.

In addition to working prompt, you need to provide them a time out as soon as you observe they are getting irked. Hopefully then you will be able to re-engage their concentration and take more shots. Before you even start taking photographs of the kid, the specialist should have agreed with the parents the type of shots they need and how many. Having a genuine plan in mind and knowing just what you need to happen will help to break off any problems. Also the better your children’s photographers speak to you, i.e. the customer the more likely you are to achieve a happy outcome.
